Facts

The plaintiff had been in the employ of the defendant for 13 years in the capacity of a security
officer. He was terminated by the employer after accumulating a pre-determined number of
penalty points under a collective bargaining agreement. The plaintiff instituted the suit for
wrongful termination in violation of public policy. The plaintiff contended that his employer, the
defendant, discharged him in retaliation for reporting alleged safety and health issues. The
defendant contended that the plaintiff was discharged in accordance with the terms of the
collective bargaining agreement.

Settlement Discussions

The plaintiff made a demand of $250,000; the defendant offered $7,500.
