Facts
The plaintiff is a professional stuntman and, at the time of the accident that gave rise to the suit, was a member of the "Action Oriented" wire stunt team, under the leadership of fellow stuntman, the defendant Hiro Koda. In August 2001, Koda was contacted by the defendant David Wald, a movie director employed by the co-defendants Extreme Digital Media Inc., Knob/Ryder Entertainment Group Inc. and/or Knob Ryder Productions. Wald told Koda that he wanted Koda's stunt team to do stunt work for a film on which he was working. On Aug. 28, 2001, the plaintiff and his stunt team came to the film to perform their stunts. The plaintiff was to perform a "wire wrap," which involved a wire being wrapped around the plaintiff's waist several times which would unwind while the plaintiff was flung through the air, causing him to spin in mid-air. The plaintiff's stunt somehow went wrong, resulting in the plaintiff's alleged injuries.
Settlement Discussions
All parties participated in a mediation on Nov. 13, 2003. The plaintiff demanded $150,000. The defendants offered $10,000.
Result
The defendants' summary judgment motions were granted in their entirety.
