Published: Jan. 5, 2012 | Result Date: Dec. 7, 2011 |

Case number: 11-12010 Bench Decision –  Plan Approval

Facts

On June 27, 2011, Los Angeles Dodgers LLC filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. In the context of bankruptcy proceedings, the Dodgers sought to sell its media rights to future games. However, Fox Sports objected to the proposed sale.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
The Dodgers argued that a media rights sale would make the most of the potential value bankruptcy for creditors.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Fox Sports asserted that the sale would contravene its rights within an agreement with the Dodgers.

Result

The bankruptcy court agreed to approve the Dodger's plan to sell the media rights to games beginning in 2014. A proposed sale process would include initial bids by January 13 and completion of a sale by April 30, and any buyer would be able to accept or reject a deal agreed to by Fox and the Dodgers.
