Plaintiffs brought an action to recover damages and their promised interest in a marijuana corporation, defendant Arts District Patients Collective Inc. that was controlled by defendant James Shaw.
Contentions
PLAINTIFFS' CONTENTIONS: Plaintiff claimed that Shaw fraudulently induced plaintiffs to build and operate a state-of-the-art marijuana dispensary and cultivation facility in Los Angeles before attempting to remove Tellez and his companies from power and keep the facility for himself.
Plaintiffs asserted causes of action for fraud, breach of oral contract, rescission of written contract, breach of the covenant of good faith and fair dealing, negligence, negligent misrepresentation, breach of fiduciary duty, quantum meruit, and constructive fraud.
DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS: Defendant denied the allegations.
Result
The jury rescinded the contract signed by Tellez and awarded Tellez and his related companies, who were also plaintiffs in the case, $4.3 million in damages. The jury awarded damages on each of plaintiffs' claims.
