Mathias Paul, whose stage name is Paul van Dyk, filed an arbitration claim against ABO Management, B.V. after he fell through a hole in the stage while working as a DJ at the "A State of Trance" festival in the Netherlands.
Contentions
CLAIMANT'S CONTENTIONS: Claimant contended that while he was working as a DJ under contract with respondent, he fell 10 meters through a hole in the stage that was covered by a cloth. He contended that respondent had not warned him of the hole in the stage. Claimant contended that he suffered severe physical injuries, including brain injuries. He further contended that respondent was responsible both as a premises operator and under the contract it had with claimant.
RESPONDENT'S CONTENTIONS: Respondent contended it was not responsible for claimant's injuries.
Result
The arbitrator awarded claimant $12,588,643 for medical bills and past and future lost profits.
