Facts
Plaintiff U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed suit against defendant Honold Enterprises Inc., dba Burgers & Beer that involved alleged gender and sex discrimination and alleged violations of the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS: Plaintiff contended defendant Burgers & Beer refused to hire male servers and allegedly upheld this policy to maintain a nearly all female server staff at the chain of six Southern California casual dining restaurants.
DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS: Defendant denied plaintiff's contentions.
Result
The parties agreed to settle for $150,000 to be paid out to male applicants who were denied server positions. Burgers & Beer also promised to change its job descriptions and take other efforts to attract more male candidates for open server positions. Additionally, defendants must try to meet quotes for hiring and retaining male servers, create and implement anti discrimination hiring policies, and provide anti-discrimination training to employees.
