Facts

Plaintiff Ashly Broussard was an employee at the Adelanto ICE Processing Center in Adelanto, California, a federal detention center operated by Defendant The GEO Group, Inc., from September 2016 until January 2018, when she was terminated. Defendant Laurel Withers was a Lieutenant at the Adelanto Facility and one of Plaintiff's former supervisors. Plaintiff sued GEO for sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation, hostile work environment, failure to prevent sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation, wrongful termination, and failure to provide rest periods, meal periods, and overtime wages. Plaintiff sued Withers for sexual harassment. Plaintiff sued both parties for assault and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS: Plaintiff claimed that during her employment with GEO, she was the victim of unlawful sexual harassment by Lieutenant Withers, was retaliated against, and that GEO failed to prevent the sexual harassment, discrimination, and retaliation. Plaintiff claimed that she suffered damages as a result of Defendants' actions.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS: Defendants denied all of the claims.

Injuries

Plaintiff claimed emotional distress.

Result

The case settled for $500,000.
