Yolanda Lovejoy was driving a vehicle on Branciforte St. in Santa Cruz when the side of her vehicle was struck by a taxi. Yong Im Yoon was operating the taxi that struck Lovejoy's car. The dashboard camera showed that Yoon ran the red light at about 30 mph.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS: Plaintiff contended that she suffered injuries to her back, neck, and shoulders that were directly caused by the collision. Lovejoy asserted causes of action for negligent operation of his vehicle and against Santa Cruz Transportation LLP, the registered owner of Yoon's vehicle, for vicarious liability over Yoon's actions.
DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS: Defendants ceded the contentions.
Injuries
Yolanda Lovejoy suffered bulges in her C4-5 and C5-6 intervertebral discs. She also suffered lumbar facet syndrome, bursitis in her left shoulder and an impingement of the same.
Result
The jury awarded plaintiff a $1.51 million verdict.
