Facts

Plaintiffs Angelena Sandifor, Brenda Blandon and Jamie Utterback, filed a lawsuit against the County of Los Angeles alleging that Los Angeles County Sheriff Deputy Giancarlo Scotti sexually assaulted plaintiffs while they were incarcerated at Century Regional Detention Facility.

Contentions

PLAINTIFFS' CONTENTION: Utterback contended that Deputy Scotti sexually assaulted her by forcing her to rub his erect penis while she was alone with him in an elevator. Sandifor contended that Deputy Scotti forced her to perform oral sex on him while she was inside her cell. Blandon alleged that Deputy Scotti ordered her to disrobe while she was inside her cell. She also alleged that Deputy Scotti groped her when she was alone with him in an elevator.

Plaintiffs further alleged that the County of Los Angeles and Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department were negligent in training its employees on sexual abuse deterrence and prevention.

DEFENDANTS' CONTENTIONS: Defendants denied plaintiffs' contentions.

Result

The parties agreed to a $1.7 million settlement.
