Facts
Sofia Avalos, Louis Breazil, Jared Carroll, Alvin English and Max Coover initiated a class action lawsuit against Papa John's International Inc. on behalf of themselves and approximately 120,000 other Papa John and franchisee employees.
Contentions
PLAINTIFFS' CONTENTIONS: Plaintiffs contended that while they were employed by defendant, they were made to complete mandatory training without pay. Plaintiffs further contended that making employees complete uncompensated training was defendant and its franchisee's standard practice. Plaintiff also contended that defendant was liable for its franchisees' conduct as a joint-employer. Plaintiffs contended that defendant was subject to FLSA regulations, which it violated with its standard practice.
DEFENDANTS' CONTENTIONS: Defendant denied the contentions.
Result
The parties entered a $3.4 million settlement agreement.
Other Information
The parties later engaged in two mediations before negotiating the final settlement agreement.
