Facts
Tureko Straughter's son, K.R., was a minor when San Francisco police detained him for alleged auto burglary. K.R. was eventually granted a release order from the court, however juvenile authorities did not release K.R. until three days after the order was granted. K.R. eventually sued the police department and chief for his detention.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS: Plaintiff contended that defendants disobeyed a court order to release plaintiff from custody and therefore falsely imprisoned plaintiff for each day in custody after the order. Plaintiff further contended that defendant allowed plaintiff very little time outside the cell and restricted contact with his family. Plaintiff further contended that the conditions defendants placed plaintiff in left plaintiff with a lack of appetite and need for companionship with plaintiff.
DEFENDANTS' CONTENTIONS: Defendants denied the contentions.
Result
The parties entered a $160,000 settlement agreement.
