Facts

Christian Simmons was an hourly non-exempt employee at Joe & The Juice, a California cafe and restaurant chain. Following over seven months of working as an employee, Simmons initiated a class action lawsuit against Joe & The Juice on behalf of himself and similarly situated employees pursuant to California's Private Attorney's General Act for alleged wage and hour violations.

Contentions

PLAINTIFFS' CONTENTIONS: Plaintiff contended that defendant intentionally refused to pay plaintiffs' proper overtime pay for over 8 hours of work done in a day. Plaintiffs also contended that defendants failed to provide meal periods and rest breaks to plaintiffs as required by the law.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS: Defendant denied the contentions.

Result

The parties agreed to settle for $1 million.
