Facts
On August 12, 2012, plaintiff Sheila Mayfield's child was removed from her care and custody by the Department of Children and Family Services. Plaintiff sued defendant DCFS and the County of Los Angeles in relation to her child's removal.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS: Plaintiff contended that defendant violated her civil rights when a Children's Social Worker who worked for DCFS engaged in an improper relationship with the biological father of plaintiff's child. Plaintiff contended that this improper relationship prompted the removal of plaintiff's child under her custody.
DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS: Defendant denied plaintiff's contentions.
Result
The parties agreed to settle the case in the total amount of $425,000. Plaintiff's counsel will be awarded $86,560 for attorneys' fees and $5,040 for litigation costs.
