Janet Case and Courtney Shararian initiated a class action lawsuit against American Honda Motor Co., Inc. after purchasing and using an Acura.

Contentions

PLAINTIFFS' CONTENTIONS: Plaintiffs contended that defendant sold them vehicles with defective transmissions. Defendant knew of the issues with its transmissions, as evinced by defendant's multiple adjustments and accommodations on its warranties. Plaintiffs additionally contended that defendant was liable to them for violating California's Secret Warranty
law.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS: Defendants denied the contentions.

Result

The case settled for $4,975,000, which was composed of $3.87 million in compensation to class members, $1,085,000 in attorneys' fees and costs, and $20,000 to the plaintiffs.
