Plaintiffs Kendra Sullivan, Marianna Williams, Johanna Mathews, Sharmarray Ross, Kysha Drew, Jeannie Jones, and Staci Gilman filed a class action lawsuit against defendants Safeway Inc., The Vons Companies, Inc., Vons Sherman Oaks, LLC, Safeway Southern California Leasing, Inc., and Safeway Leasing, Inc. alleging a violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS: Plaintiff contended that defendants routinely violated the FCRA by procuring consumer reports on employees and job applicants without making a required stand-alone disclosure.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS: Defendant denied plaintiff's contentions.

Result

The court preliminary approved the class action settlement agreement. According to the terms of the settlement, defendants agreed to pay $2,300,000. Each class representative will be awarded up to $11,000.00 as service awards.
