Facts
Brian Carlos Mandujano was assigned to an inmate work crew at the Pitchess Detention Center. Mandujano was tasked with moving tree stumps and rounds from one trailer to another. While the inmate work crew was in the process of transferring several wood rounds and stumps, the custody assistant crew leader stepped away to drink water. During this time, Mandujano's hand was pinned between the side of the trailer and a tree stump. Custody staff called paramedics and Mandujano was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital for treatment. Mandujano brought an action against the County of Los Angeles for his injuries.
