Facts

Global K9 Protection Group provides services through the use of canines. Justin Hidalgo, Courtney Bentley, and Gavin Boomer brought a class action against K9 alleging a violated the Fair Labor Standards Act and other labor and employment laws when it failed to adequately provide proper compensation. Plaintiffs alleged that employers who were Canine Handlers or Site Leads were misclassified as "exempt" employees or otherwise failed to pay non-exempt canine handlers and site leads.

Contentions

PLAINTIFFS' CONTENTIONS: Plaintiffs contended that defendant failed to pay overtime compensation and regular wages. Plaintiffs contended defendants failed to provide adequate meal periods and rest brakes. Plaintiffs contended defendants failed to reimburse employees for work-related expenses. Plaintiffs contended that defendants misclassified employees as "exempt" employees or otherwise failed to pay non-exempt employees.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS: Defendant denied all of the contentions.

Result

The case settled for $425,000.
