Facts

Argonaut Ventures operates a chain of Burger King restaurants. Brandon Brooks worked for Argonaut and thereafter filed a class action lawsuit.

Contentions

PLAINTIFFS' CONTENTIONS: Plaintiff, on behalf of himself and other former and/or current Argonaut employees, contended that defendant consistently failed to adequately provide its employees with meals and/or rest breaks. He also alleged that defendants failed to: provide accurate itemized wage statements; failed to timely pay wages upon terminations and other related claims. Moreover, these violations resulted in the underpayment of wages and business expenses. Brooks also sought civil penalties that related to these claims.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS: Defendant denied that it violated the law in any way attested in the lawsuit and admitted no fault, guilt, negligence, wrongdoing or liability.

Result

The case settled between the parties for an amount not to exceed $550,000 to resolve the claims. Part of that total included $192,500 as reasonable compensation for class counsel and litigation expenses not to exceed $15,000.
