John Stupar and Zanita Kelly worked as part-time lecturers at the University of La Verne. On September 9, 2019, Stupar and Kelly filed a class action suit against the University.
Contentions
PLAINTIFFS' CONTENTIONS: Plaintiffs alleged that defendant failed to pay for all hours worked and failed to provide them with legally-compliant rest breaks. Moreover, plaintiffs contended that defendant failed to: reimburse them for certain business expenses; furnish timely and accurate wage statements; pay all wages owed when they left employment.
DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS: Defendant denied all allegations and contended that plaintiffs' claims were meritless.
Settlement Discussions
The parties participated in a mediation session with Ms. Lisa Klerman on August 24, 2020 where the basic terms of the settlement were agreed on.
Result
The parties agreed to a gross settlement amount of $2,450,000.
