Facts

On April 9, 2021, Larissa Marantz filed a class action complaint alleging various Labor Code and Wage Order violations. The class included all individuals who are currently and formerly employed by Laguna College of Art and Design as either adjunct faculty or adjunct class members in California at any time from April 9, 2017, to February 23, 2022. On July 13, 2022, Marantz filed a second amended complaint that added Morghan Gill as a named plaintiff. On October 26, 2021, the parties participated in a mediation session with Lou Marlin, an experienced mediator.

Contentions

PLAINTIFFS' CONTENTIONS: Plaintiffs alleged that defendant failed to: pay all wages due for all hours worked, provide legally-complaint rest and meal breaks, pay all wages owed upon separation from employment, furnish timely and accurate wage statements, and reimburse for reasonably and necessarily incurred business expenses for its employees in California. Additionally, plaintiffs contended that as a result of the violations, defendant engaged in unfair, unlawful, and fraudulent business practices in violation of the Business & Professions Code.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS: Defendant denied all contentions.

Result

The case settled for $825,000.
