Facts

After Facebook Inc. introduced the "Like" button outside of its Facebook environment, it became a social plugin favorite, with many websites formally integrating it onto their homepages. A class action suit was filed against Facebook for breach of contract and implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing in regards to the privacy implications pertaining to information collected by Facebook.

Contentions

PLAINTIFFS' CONTENTIONS: Plaintiffs contended that defendant improperly obtained and collected data from United States Facebook users who visited non-Facebook websites that displayed the Facebook Like button between April 22, 2010 and September 26, 2011.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS: Defendant expressly denied any liability and wrongdoing

Result

Defendant established a settlement fund of $90 million to pay class members' claims, notice and administration expenses, attorneys' fees and expenses, and service awards. Also, defendant agreed to delete all cookie data, not already deleted, that it received or collected from class members.
