In 2003, Juliet Zacarias set up a cabana and some patio furniture on the top of a hillside near the property line she shared with Lilli Shoen. On June 15, 2021, Shoen filed suit against Zacarias in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS: The plaintiff contended that the defendant had set up the cabana and patio furniture on a 491-square-foot patch of land that did not belong to her; that the defendant had trespassed; that as a result of the defendant's trespass, she was entitled to $500,000 in damages, including for loss of the property, cost of restoring the property, and cost of recovering possession of the property.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS: The defendant denied that the plaintiff was entitled to $500,000 in damages for the trespass.

A jury awarded the plaintiff a $6,780 verdict and a permanent injunction.
