Facts
Monica Jackson worked for the University of Redlands as an adjunct professor. On December 1, 2021, Jackson filed suit against the University, in San Bernardino Superior, seeking to represent not only certain University employees who worked from March 20, 2020 through March 1, 2022, but also all adjunct professors who worked any time from January 22, 2021 through January 24, 2023. She also sought penalties under the Private Attorneys General Act plus fees and costs.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS: Plaintiff contended that defendant: failed to reimburse necessary business expenses resulting from working remotely, including, as pertinent, time spent in mandatory training; failed to pay for all hours worked; and failed to disburse accurate, itemized wage statements.
DEFENDANT’S CONTENTIONS: Defendant denied all material allegations, contending that its policies, procedures, and practices complied with all applicable laws.
Settlement Discussions
On September 29, 2022, the parties participated in mediation.
Result
The case settled for $700,000.
