Facts

Walter Paz worked for Public Security Inc. On April 21, 2021, he filed suit against his former employer in Los Angeles Superior for wage-and-hour violations. He sought to represent nonexempt hourly-paid or piece-rate compensated employees who worked from April 21, 2017 through December 15, 2022.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS: Plaintiff contended that defendant failed to: provide meal or rest periods; failed to pay all wages on discharge; failed to pay wages for all hours worked; provided non-compliant wage statements; and violated unfair business practices laws. Plaintiff also sought Private Attorneys General Act penalties.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS: Defendant denied plaintiff's allegations, further denying that it did not comply with applicable laws.

Settlement Discussions

On August 31, 2022, the parties participated in mediation with Mark Lemke, Esq. Though that initial meeting did not result in a resolution, ongoing discussion led ultimately to the settlement.

Result

The case settled for $154,400.

The final approval hearing will be held on December 5, 2023.
