Facts

On August 14, 2020, a city semi-truck heading westbound on Barnes Canyon Road driven by a city worker crashed into Enrique Rios' vehicle as he was headed southbound on Lusk Boulevard. Rios and the city worker claimed that they had a green light at the time of the crash. On February 17, 2021, Rios filed suit against the City of San Diego alleging personal injury.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS: Plaintiff alleged that the malfunctioning city stoplights caused the car accident on August 2020. Plaintiff also contended that he suffered significant injuries to his left should and right knee as a result of the accident.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS: Defendant denied all contentions. On April 4, 2022, the City filed a Cross Complaint against Ryan Canedy and Veritiv Operating Company (Cross-Defendants). On May 25, 2023, Plaintiff filed an Amended Complaint against Cross-Defendants. On June 23, 2023, Cross-Defendants filed a Cross-Complaint against the City of San Diego.

Result

The City of San Diego agreed to pay $250,000 to settle all claims. Cross-Defendants agreed to pay $25,000 to settle all claims.
