Facts
Plaintiff brought a class action against her former employers, defendants Empire Ranch, Willow Springs, and Blossom Grove, who jointly ran Alzheimer care centers in Northern California. She alleged that for years, defendants prevented her and other caregivers from: (1) taking meal breaks despite working 5+ hours a day; (2) taking rest breaks for every four hours worked; (3) receiving itemized wage statements; and (4) receiving all wages owed at the conclusion of their employment. The parties agreed to settle the case.
Result
Defendants agreed to pay a gross settlement amount of $125,000. Of that amount, the parties allocated $41,666 for attorneys' fees; $12,500 for costs; $3,000 for the class representative fee; $9,000 for settlement administrator costs; and an overall PAGA award of $5,000 ($3,750 of which would be paid to the LWDA).
