Facts

Jason Torres is a former nonexempt hourly employee of Imperial Parking Industries, Inc. On December 10, 2021, Torres filed suit individually and on behalf of all others similarly situated against IPI in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS: Torres contended that IPI failed to pay overtime wages; failed to pay minimum wages; failed to timely pay wages due upon separation from employment; failed to provide meal periods and rest breaks; and failed to provide accurate itemized wage statements. In addition to these claims, Torres contended that IPI was liable for civil penalties under the Private Attorneys General Act of 2004.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS: IPI denied any wrongdoing or liability and all of Torres's material allegations, and it contended that it complied with all applicable laws.

Settlement Discussions

The parties participated in a full-day mediation session with Joel Grossman, which led to their eventual settlement agreement.

Result

The parties reached an agreement wherein IPI admitted no wrongdoing or liability but agreed to pay $130,000 to settle class members' and PAGA claims.
