Facts
Plaintiff was sexually assaulted by her stepfather, Robert Fitzgerald, from approximately 1987-1997. The sexual molestation began when plaintiff was about five years old and continued until defendant ultimately went to prison for it.
Plaintiff's mother, defendant Kathleen Bingley, along with defendant the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints were aware of the sexual abuse. Defendant Church threatened and prevented plaintiff from going to the police about the sexual abuse and claimed they would handle it themselves. Defendant Church, defendant Bingley and defendant Fitzgerald all met regarding the sexual abuse. They told plaintiff to "hug and forgive," allowed the sexual abuse to continue and made sure plaintiff did not go to the authorities.
Plaintiff settled with defendant Kathleen Bingley for $200,000 and with defendant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for $995,000. Plaintiff went to trial against Defendant Fitzgerald.

The jury unanimously awarded Plaintiff $836,000,000 in past and future non economic losses and $1,444,000,000 in punitive damages for a total of $2,280,000,000.
