Facts
On February 6, 2022, Jocelyn Li was driving on Van Ness Avenue in San Francisco when she was involved in a traffic collision with a police vehicle driven by San Francisco Police Sergeant Joseph Salazar. On July 1, 2022, Li filed suit against the City and County of San Francisco (CCSF) in San Francisco Superior Court.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS: Li contended that, at the time of the accident, Salazar was driving a police vehicle owned by CCSF; that Salazar was operating the vehicle as an employee, and with the authorization, of CCSF; that Salazar had operated the police vehicle negligently by, among other things, failing to turn on his siren; and that he had caused the collision with Li's vehicle. As a result of the accident, Li contended that she suffered major physical and emotional injuries, and that CCSF was liable for those injuries.
DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS: CCSF denied any wrongdoing or liability and all Li's material allegations.
Result
The parties reached an agreement wherein CCSF admitted no wrongdoing or liability but agreed to pay $45,000 to settle Li's claims.
