Facts

On Sunday, May 9, 2021, at about 2:51 a.m., an on-duty Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy was driving on Imperial Highway, entering the intersection of Shoemaker Avenue, when his vehicle collided with plaintiff Juan Leon's car. The Sheriff's patrol vehicle was struck by plaintiff's car on the driver's side door, causing the patrol vehicle to hit a metal light pole.

Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the scene, confirming that neither party was injured. The Whittier Police Department also arrived and its investigation concluded that the Deputy Sheriff was primarily responsible for the collision.

Result

The Los Angeles Claims Board authorized a settlement in the amount of $450,000.
