Facts

The District Attorney filed a civil complaint against Alliance United Insurance Services, alleging that it frequently failed to: respond promptly to consumers' auto insurance claims; make coverage decisions within the requisite legal timeframe; include required information and notices in communications with claimants; and pay claims fully and in a timely manner. The parties stipulated to a judgment.

Result

By stipulated judgment, Alliance agreed to, inter alia, require that employees handling California claims take a course on the California Fair Claims Settlement Practices regulations; update its systems; conduct audits; and pay $1.1 million.
