Facts

On November 14, 2019, Alicia Reyna filed a class action lawsuit against her former employer Westrock Company and Westrock Services LLC. The following year, on May 20, 2020, Humberto Castrejon Jr., filed a similar complaint. The cases were consolidated, with the parties filing a consolidated fourth amended complaint on August 25, 2022. The class included all hourly, non-exempt employees who had been employed by defendants from November 14, 2016 through September 8, 2021.

Contentions

PLAINTIFFS' CONTENTIONS: Plaintiffs asserted that defendants violated various wage-and-hour laws and sought Private Attorneys General Act penalties.

DEFENDANTS' CONTENTIONS: Defendants denied all material contentions.

Result

Defendants agreed to pay a maximum settlement amount of $5.5 million. The court found that attorneys' fees of $1.54 million, and costs of $23,540.60 to be reasonable.
