Plaintiff Cynthia Pierson, a 37-year-old airline passenger service agent, was injured while pushing a passenger-boarding stairs ("airstairs") away from an America West Aircraft. She trapped the heel of her foot under the protruding tow pin of the airstairs, causing several bones in the arch of her foot to fracture. Defendant Nordskog Industries, Inc., was the original designer of the airstairs.
