Facts
Plaintiffs had conducted a worker-exposure monitoring study in the summer of 1988. When the final report on the study was presented in February of 1989, personnel of the Defendant allegedly made statements to the press indicating that the Plaintiffs had exposed the study participants to excessive levels of pesticide, had breached state approved study guidelines, and had conducted the study in an unprofessional and unethical fashion.
Settlement Discussions
Plaintiffs contend they demanded $3,500,000 and an apology and Defendants offered $50,000 with an indication of $100,000. Defendants contend their offer was $5,000.

Plaintiffs claimed that their business dropped from a peak of $1,200,000 gross per year to $30,000 in 1993; their total damages claim was $4,500,000.
