On June 7, 1991, Plaintiff, a 43-year-old Amway distributor, was standing in the back of a ski boat while reeling in a ski tow rope. Defendant, an acquaintance of Plaintiff's in a separate boat, drove over the ski rope while trying to splash water on Plaintiff. The ski rope became entangled around Plaintiff's leg, jerking her out of the boat.
