Facts

Plaintiff Linda Schoner, a 46-year-old teacher, was involved in 2 automobile collisions in 1991. The first accident in February involved a Defendant who settled; he struck Plaintiff's automobile while both were exiting a shopping mall in Yorba Linda. The damage to Plaintiff's vehicle was $1,410,000. The second accident occurred in August on Orangewood Street in Anaheim; Defendant Eloise Stoughton Townsend made a left turn in front of Plaintiff. A broadside collision occurred with $2,500 damage to Plaintiff's automobile. Plaintiff made no complaints of pain at the scene of the second accident and no police report was taken. Schoner was still treating for the injuries sustained in the February collision when the August accident occurred. Plaintiff was also involved in a third accident in January of 1990; this collision was not the subject of these 2 consolidated actions.

Defendant Townsend contends she made a 998 offer of $17,500 and Plaintiff demanded $100,000 reduced to $49,999 (998) two weeks before trial.
