Facts
On September 26, 1991, one day after the birth of her fourth child, this patient underwent a tubal ligation procedure at Defendants hospital. The Defendant's surgical anesthesiologist was unable to establish an airway in prepping the patient for surgery. She suffered hypoxia and eventually died 17 days later, due to adult respiratory distress syndrome. At the time the patient was a 35-year-old Hispanic woman who was a factory worker. Plaintiffs were her surviving husband and four children.
