Facts
On May 10, 1992, Plaintiff Sharon Tucker, a 35-year-old unemployed female, presented to Defendant Western Medical Center of Santa Ana. She was in active labor. Plaintiff had had 3 prior cesarean sections. Defendant Rene Carranza, M.D., delivered a healthy female infant by way of cesarean section. In closing, Dr. Carranza inadvertently sutured the bladder to the uterus. After 10 days, a vesico-uterine fistula developed and required repair. Plaintiff remained in the hospital for 17 days. Post-operatively, she did fairly well, but developed bladder spasms.
Settlement Discussions
Defendants contend they made no offers (no consent) and Plaintiff demanded $150,000, reduced to $29,999 just prior to trial.
