Facts

From 1991 to 1993, the plaintiff, a 32-year-old security office manager, was employed by the defendant department store. The plaintiff's employment was terminated on November 30, 1993. The defendant informed the plaintiff that he was terminated for violation of company policy in accessing credit records to obtain addresses of a former supervisor. The plaintiff brought this action under race discrimination and retaliation theories of recovery.

The plaintiff made a $350,000 settlement demand and the defendant offered $25,000.

The settlement was reached approximately two years, one month and three weeks after the case was filed. A settlement conference was held on December 14, 1995, before Judge Otero of the Los Angeles Superior Court, Glendale and resulted in a settlement of $25,000 and $2,500 in gift certificates to be negotiated at the defendant's store.
