Facts
From 1990 until 1994, plaintiff Richard Ruiz, a 34-year-old correctional officer, was employed by the defendant California Department of Corrections. His wife, plaintiff Frances Gantong-Ruiz, a 38-year-old, worked in the investigative services unit. In 1993 and 1994 the plaintiff husband allegedly engaged in sexual conduct with at least three inmates. The investigative services unit conducted an investigation into the allegations against the plaintiff husband . The plaintiff wife did not participate in the investigation. The plaintiffs brought this action against their former employer based on race, gender and marital status discrimination and harassment theories of recovery.
Settlement Discussions
The plaintiffs made a settlement demand for $300,000. The defendant made a C.C.P. º998 offer of compromise for $20,000.
Damages
The plaintiffs claimed $10 million in damages.

The decision was reached approximately two years and five months after the case was filed. SETTLEMENT CONFERENCE: A settlement conference was held before Judge Edward Moffat. It did not resolve the matter.
