On March 9, 1992, plaintiff McIlheron, a 27-year-old cabinet maker, was riding his motorcycle in an unincorporated area of northwest Los Angeles County when a vehicle operated by defendant Daniel Thompson, an off-duty Los Angeles police officer, struck the plaintiff. The defendant was traveling northbound on Sierra Highway approaching the intersection with Foothill Boulevard when the plaintiff made a left turn directly into his path from southbound Sierra to eastbound Foothill Boulevard. The plaintiff brought this action against the defendant based on a negligence theory of recovery.

EXPERT TESTIMONY: The defense did not call witnesses since all evidence indicated that the defendant was traveling at or below the speed limit on an improved, paved portion of the highway that was wider than the width of an ordinary lane of traffic. The plaintiff's expert was his treating physician.
