Facts
On Jan. 3, 1997, defendant, while traveling westbound on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu attempted to make an illegal u-turn and stopped in the middle of moving traffic causing a collision with the plaintiffs 17 and 18 year old students as they were traveling in their car in same direction. The plaintiff contended that the defendant unlawfully stopped in the No. 1 lane of Pacific Coast Highway in order to turn left, causing the plaintiff's vehicle to collide into the rear of defendant's vehicle. The plaintiffs brought this action against the defendant based on a negligence theory of recovery.
Settlement Discussions
The plaintiffs made a settlement demand for $10,000 on plaintiff No. 1 and $125,000 on plaintiff No. 2. The defendant accepted both.

Injuries
Plaintiff No. 1, suffered multiple lacerations to right shin/forearm, requiring emergency room treatment. The other plaintiff sustained scalp and face lacerations, contusions, psychological trauma requiring plastic surgery and psychological counseling.

The settlement was reached approximately one year and six months after the case was filed.
