Facts
On Feb. 4, 1996, Kristina Lolatte presented with her 3-month-old daughter who had a temperature of 103 degrees with vomiting with diarrhea. The initial diagnosis was gastroenteritis. After the fifth day of hospitalization, the child displayed bilateral conjunctivitis, body rash and extremity changes. KawasakiÆs Disease, a rare by potentially lethal disease was considered by the resident. Research was done regarding the importance of implementing treatment in the form of IV gamma globulin within ten days following the onset of fever.
As the days went by, the childÆs symptoms came and went and the defendants pursued a variety of different facts. A sedimentation rate and 2D echo were both negative for KawasakiÆs Disease.
On day 13 of the disease, the child was sent to UCLA Pediatric Infectious Disease and diagnosed immediately with KawasakiÆs Disease. Despite treatment, the child died from an aneurysmal bleed one month later.
