Facts
Following the Northridge earthquake, the defendants had their home was almost totally rebuilt.
In September 1997, they sold their home "as is" to plaintiffs. The property was inspected by a licensed contractor,
hired by the plaintiffs, prior to the close of escrow.
After moving into the home, the roof began leaking in November 1997.
Damages
According to the defendant, the plaintiffs claimed damages in the amount of $1,028,282.52 for the cost of a new roof, damage caused by replacement of the roof, roof repairs/preservation, real estate taxes paid, mortgage payments, principal amount owing, payments made to defendants on second trust deed, escrow fees, loan charges, title charges, apartment rental costs, yard maintenance, interior repairs caused by water intrusion, structural defects, and other miscellaneous expenses. In addition, plaintiffs were seeking punitive damages and attorney fees pursuant to contract.
