Facts
On Nov. 5, 1997, the decedent, was employed as the chief engineer at X Hotel. On Nov. 5,
1997, an electrical explosion occurred while the decedent was working in the main electrical
room of the hotel in the course and scope of his employment. As a result, the decedent suffered
severe burns to his body and smoke inhalation. He was transported to the hospital where he died
approximately 11 days later on Nov. 16, 1997. The decedent was married and had two minor
children.
Settlement Discussions
The case settled as a result of two mediation sessions before Jeffrey Krivis. The carrier on behalf of the defendant owners of the building settled for $1 million. Defendant A. Electric paid $100,000, B. Architects paid $75,000, C. Operations Support paid $50,000 and the D. Electric Company paid $25,000. E. Fire Alarm company paid $0.
Injuries
The decedent sustained severe burns to his body and smoke inhalation as a result of the accident. He then died 11 days later as a result of his injuries.
