Facts
Plaintiff Karine Lando had six lower anterior teeth prepped for veneers by defendant David Youssefi, DMD. The defendant was unable to anesthetize the plaintiff and only able to place one veneer during a six-hour appointment. The plaintiff had the other five veneers placed by a subsequent treating dentist. The plaintiff underwent six root canals and had the veneers replaced with crowns.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
The plaintiff contended that the defendant negligently recommended and prepared six lower anterior teeth for veneers. The preparations were overprepared causing the need for root canal therapy on all six teeth. The veneers were poorly done causing the need for replacement of the veneers with six crowns.
DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Veneers were an acceptable option to present to the plaintiff along with orthodontics. The preps were similar to 3/4 crown preps, which were appropriate given the circumstances. The plaintiff needed one or two root canals, not six.
Settlement Discussions
The plaintiff demanded $126,891. No offers were made.
