Facts

While John Steele was driving on southbound Highway 1 in Grover Beach, he suffered a heart attack. As a result, his vehicle veered into the northbound lane and struck John Blakeley's vehicle head-on. Both vehicles were totaled and Steele died on impact.

Damages

The plaintiff's 2001 Ford F150, which was totaled in the accident, was purchased several days prior. The plaintiff was paid $17,541 for total loss and loss of use.

Injuries

The plaintiff's injuries consisted of fractures to his leg, a severe heel bone fracture, a left Lisfranc fracture dislocation, joint dislocation to his fourth metatarsal phalangeal joint, a right distal tibia fracture, as well as other injuries.

Result

The parties settled for $1,100,000, the sum of Steele's insurance policy limits.
