Dayo Olufade sued Los Angeles Police Department Officer Paul Ulmer, and Officer Jared Timmons, in connection with an incident that occurred on March 12, 2012.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiff is a security guard that was working at a private Jewish day school, when an alarm went off in the school. Plaintiff checked the cameras and patrolled the premises. Shortly after, defendant officers arrived at the school, plaintiff identified himself as a security guard and let them know what he believed had occurred. The defendant officers began to question plaintiff, particularly about his uniform and why he did not have a badge. Plaintiff became alarmed and asked to speak to defendant officers' supervisor. The officers placed plaintiff under arrest. The Rabbi of the school and others informed the officers that plaintiff was the security guard. Despite this, plaintiff was detained in a holding cell for 18 hours.
Result
The jury rendered a verdict against Timmons, but not as to Ulmer. The jury then awarded Olufade $10,000 from Timmons.
