Facts
Plaintiff, now 22, was a teenage member of the Explorer Scouts youth program in defendant city. Plaintiff joined
the program while she was still in high school. Defendant police department operated the Explorer Scouts
program out of its Northeast Division Station. The Explorer Post, where many of the youth activities took
place, was directed by defendant police officer. Defendant officer was plaintiffÆs supervisor.
Beginning in 1995 and over a two-year period of time, the officer engaged in sexual
harassment and other lewd misconduct with plaintiff. Many of these incidents occurred in the
Northeast Division Station while defendant was on duty.
Settlement Discussions
Prior to the resolution of the case, the plaintiff had demanded $3 million.
Damages
The plaintiff suffered physical and emotional injury during the sexual incidents with the officer. In addition, plaintiff suffered and continues to suffer emotional distress, anxiety, depression, nightmares and flashbacks of the incidents involving the officer.
Other Information
Defendant officer made no agreements of any kind and paid nothing in settlement of the case. Defendant city never took the officerÆs statement or deposed him or the plaintiff before settling.
