Facts

Hourly employees of stores owned by Lowe's HIW Inc. filed a class action against their employer. Members of the class worked for defendant between Oct. 29, 1997, and April 23, 2009.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
The plaintiffs alleged that Lowe's did not pay overtime wages and improperly denied the employees appropriate meal and rest breaks.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Lowe's denied the allegations.

Damages

The plaintiffs sought their claimed unpaid earnings.

Result

The parties settled for a maximum of $29,500,000, which included an award of $103 to each employee for every $10,000 earned.
